About Cannon Hill

Cannon Hill is a residential suburb on Wynnum Road of the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. This suburb is about 10.4 kilometres east of the Central Business District and borders Carina, Morningside, Murarrie, and Tingalpa.

History of Cannon Hill

Cannon Hill was variously thought to be named after Cannon Hill House, a residence that was burned down in 1927. The house was named by Thornhill Weedon after the two fallen trees which were said to have resembled a cannon.

In the 1960s Cannon Hill was based around the intersection of Wynnum and Barrack Roads. It has about eight stores, a post office, the school of arts, Catholic and Presbyterian churches and the Catholic school (1946) to the west.

Cannon Hills has developed parks that include Cannon Hill Bushland Reserve, and Regent Park that features basketball half court, cricket field, picnic and barbeque  area/shelter, playground, and toilet.

The suburb also has Cannon Hill State School, a heritage-listed state school which has significant history and community efforts.

This includes Cannon Hill State School which is a government primary school for boys and girls located  at 845 Wynnum Road.

The St Oliver Plunkett School found at 17 Beauvardia Street, is a Catholic primary school for boys and girls. As well as the Cannon Hill Anglican College, a private primary and secondary school for boys and girls situated at the corner of Junction and Krupp Roads.
