History of Teneriffe

By the 1880s, Europeans settled the town.

Beginning in 1885, the area was covered by horse trams. Property was subdivided and auctioned next to Tenerife House in 1890. The 30 allocations were offered as Teneriffe Assets.

Electric trams operated along Commercial Road between 1897 and December 1962.

Early pictures of the suburb show trams indicating the "Bulimba" destination which in later times caused uncertainty. The area was originally considered to be part of the suburb called Bulimba, that crossed the Brisbane River on both sides.
